I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass, how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields, which is what I have been doing all day. Tell me, what else should I have done?

Nature Therapy

Nature Therapy, also called Ecotherapy, is based on the emerging field of ecopsychology, which looks at the relationship between our mental/emotional/spiritual health and our culture's increasing disconnection from the natural world.

Much of the pain we experience in our lives and on this planet is because we live under the illusion we are separate:  that our body is separate from our mind and spiritual essence, that our thoughts are disconnected from the results in our lives, that we as humans are disconnected from nature and that we are disconnected from each other.

Through contact with nature we can hear the pain and distress of the earth and in turn, hear our own messages of suffering.  By seeing the divine in nature, we can see the divine within us.  From this place of integration, there can be healing for ourselves and for the planet.

Nature therapy is practiced in various ways:

  • Group processes out in nature
  • Mindfulness meditation in nature
  • Exploring metaphors of self in nature
  • Self generated rituals to aid healing and growth
  • Experiencing nature within community
  • Solo time spent in nature and wilderness settings
  • Extended wilderness and nature journeys
